Overview

Located in the attractive North Yorkshire village of Burton Leonard, Holber Hill is a sensitively designed residential development of 30 contemporary new homes, built to a high external and internal specification, and completed in 2023.

Taylor Maxwell worked with Wharfedale Homes to supply the buff tumbled walling stone, which plays a defining role within the architectural language of the development. The walling stone is complemented by facing bricks, also supplied by Taylor Maxwell, which form a cohesive, richly textured material palette reflecting the traditional character of the local area.

Concept to Completion

The design vision for Holber Hill was centred on creating a residential environment that feels firmly rooted in its North Yorkshire setting, while offering modern homes suited to contemporary living.

To achieve this, buff tumbled walling was specified as a primary facade material. Its soft buff colouring, natural tonal variation and lightly aged, tumbled finish introduce warmth, texture and authenticity to the facades. Referencing the appearance of traditional village stonework, the walling stone helps the homes sit comfortably within the established streetscape and surrounding countryside.

Facing bricks were introduced alongside the walling stone to provide contrast and balance to the aesthetic. Their complementary tones enhance the overall look and feel of each home without detracting from the prominence of the stone, which remains the defining material feature of the development.

Large window openings, clean architectural lines and private gardens complete the overall design, creating light-filled spaces that support modern lifestyles while maintaining a close link to the surrounding landscape.

Through considered design and carefully selected materials, Holber Hill demonstrates how the use of high-quality walling stone can elevate a residential scheme, creating a development that is both visually authentic and built to endure.
