Broxbourne Nursing Home

The architect’s design reflects a balance between traditional residential care architecture and contemporary detailing, creating a facility that is both welcoming and modern. The building is arranged around an enclosed courtyard, with a curved frontage housing public and administrative spaces. Brickwork was central to the design, selected for its durability, low maintenance and ability to give the home a distinctive character within its residential setting.

Two linear brick types were selected, a red multi and a dark blue. The red bricks define the main facade, while blue bricks create a distinctive base course, adding depth, contrast and visual interest to the elevations. The long-format bricks enhance the building’s contemporary design, accentuating horizontal line and complementing the courtyard layout. We helped coordinate the supply of bricks directly to site, ensuring consistency and efficient delivery throughout the build programme.

Sustainability and accessibility are embedded throughout the development’s design, including enhanced energy-efficient features and compliance with Part M accessibility standards. The home also achieved a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating, reflecting its commitment to environmental performance and long-term operational efficiency.
