Linear Bricks

Linear bricks, or long format bricks, are increasing in popularity across UK projects, playing a crucial part in many contemporary facade designs. Since their original conception in Roman times, these bricks, also known as roman bricks, have changed and modernised to remain architecturally relevant to the construction industry today.

Available in a range of dimensions, including brick heights below 50mm and lengths of up to 500mm, we can recommend an extensive choice of long format brick options from leading UK and European manufacturers. From these possibilities, architects and designers have the flexibility and support to create innovative and distinctive facades that retain the beauty, character and durability of traditional facing bricks.

Linear bricks are frequently chosen for their sleek uniformity and their ability to accentuate the horizontal and linear aspects of a facade. A wirecut option can be utilised to cultivate a crisp, dramatic finish to a project’s exterior, while a handmade linear brick can create a delicate and elegant feature that is no less striking.

Colours and Finishes

Specifying a contemporary, long format brick option for your project facade doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice on your brick colour and finish options. Available in multiple colours and tones, we can offer linear brick options that have been handmade, extruded or textured to suit your project design vision.

Choose an extruded, white option with matching mortar to achieve a clean, elongating appearance that brings tranquillity to the surrounding landscape. Or select a red-brown, handmade brick to accomplish a textured facade that provides delicate variation and detail to your project.

Design

Facing brick is a staple in architectural design, providing inspiration and character to almost every built environment across the UK. With over 60 years’ experience, Taylor Maxwell are specialists in brick. We are expertly placed to understand your project requirements and assist in specifying the product that will achieve your facade objectives.

A long format brick is an ideal choice to reinforce the linearity of a scheme, captivating the eye as it moves across the angular elements of a fascia. Suitable for installation both horizontally and vertically, a linear brick can create a striking contrast when used in banding or lintel features.

Dimensions and Installation

At the early stage of a project's design, it is important to consider the dimensions of the brick you are looking to specify, as this will have a considerable impact on the mortar joint you select and the setting out of the brickwork.

While linear bricks lend themselves to a variety of bond patterns, orientations or even recessed installation, our teams can offer vital technical knowledge when drawing up more complex aspects of a facade, such as corners and soffits.

Whether multiple brick dimensions are required, or if precast or prefabricated components are your best solution, our advisors are on hand to guide you through the specification process, from concept to completion.
