Overview

The completion of the first phase of the Ebury Bridge Regeneration project marks the largest delivery of council homes in South Westminster for 50 years. The development has provided 226 new homes, including 16 leasehold properties, 110 homes for market sale and 100 council homes.

Taylor Maxwell supplied green glazed Argeton terracotta cladding to the scheme, contributing to a distinctive facade that stands out within the surrounding streetscape. Designed by A Studio, the project was managed by Bouygues UK, with the cladding installation carried out by Stanmore.

Concept

Located in the City of Westminster, Ebury Bridge is a flagship regeneration project transforming a 1930s estate into a modern and sustainable neighbourhood. The first phase was designed to set a high benchmark for mixed-tenure developments, supported by a single estate management service across all housing types. Once complete, the three phases will deliver 781 new homes, half of which will be for social rent.

The architects’ design approach centred on a restrained palette of materials to create a coherent and calm architectural character. Argeton terracotta cladding, specified in a glazed green finish, provided the coloured material element required to realise this vision. The green colour was selected to unify the courtyard-facing elevations and establish a visual connection with the surrounding landscaping.

In addition to supporting the design intent, Argeton terracotta cladding offered clear performance benefits, including an A1 fire rating, BBA certification and CWCT testing. Sustainability was also a key driver for the scheme, with the product’s Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) and full recyclability aligning with the project’s environmental objectives.

Completion

Completed in 2025, the first phase has achieved a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating and has been recognised for its high levels of energy efficiency. Throughout construction, Bouygues UK made a significant contribution to the local community, including an £120,000 investment in local projects and more than 1,000 volunteering hours delivered through initiatives such as the Construction Youth Trust and Women into Construction.

The site team also provided 85 weeks of work experience placements, supported five local apprentices and engaged with local businesses and community organisations.

Since completion, Ebury Bridge Phase One has been recognised as a leading example of sustainable, modern council housing. The project has also received several, including Property Week RESI Awards Development of the Year 2025, RICS Awards Residential Development Project of the Year 2025 and London Planning Awards Best Community Engagement Outcome 2024.
