On 1 April 2021, TM Global revised its trading name to Taylor Maxwell Hardwood. This update better represents the heritage of the Hardwood division within the Taylor Maxwell Group and offers a clearer understanding to our customers about our available product ranges and specialist knowledge that our sales team can provide.

Industry Update

  • Road haulage from EU to UK is reported to be improving. Timber suppliers from Sweden to the UK have said that things were ‘returning to normal’ and expected to clear their Q1 back-log by early April.
  • Construction News reports how despite a strong end to the year, housebuilding was well below that of 2019, as a brisk Q4 fails to reverse 2020’s housebuilding slump.
  • The Timber Trade Federation (TTF) reports that nearly three months since our EU exit, the Government has been forced to delay bringing in a range of post Brexit checks in EU imports until Jan 2021, as ports and traders have told the Government they are not ready.

Market Update

  • A German industry body has warned that supply chains might be affected by the availability of wood for the pallet and packaging sector, citing exports of German timber to China and the USA as the main reason. EU trade bodies commented that further price rises are inevitable.
  • The Guardian newspaper reported recently on the sales of garden furniture and home improvements, as consumers prepared for an easing of lockdown restrictions outdoors.
