Timber Update August 2020

While UK businesses continue to adapt to operating within our current climate, the end of the year is fast approaching. From 1 January 2021, goods imported from the EU will be subject to a new set of processes and procedures. The UK Government is encouraging businesses to prepare by:

  • Finding out how to declare goods from 1 January 2021
  • Making sure that they have an EORI number starting with GB
  • Checking the rate of tax duty they will have to pay
  • Checking if they can make the importing process quicker

Nick Boulton, Head of Technical and Trade at the Timber Trade Federation, has posted an article on the TTF website that outlines the changes and provides further reading.

Timber Market Update

  • As sawmills in Europe return from their annual summer shutdowns, initial reports show that stocks are low while demand remains strong
  • Lead times on Homegrown C16 timber are still extended due to heavy demand and limited output
  • Demand for pallet timber is improving as manufacturing returns, with tight supply on some sizes - prices for Q2 are reported to have increased
  • The UK Timber Industry has launched its latest video for the ‘Wood CO2ts less’ campaign
