Certification and Compliance Coordinator Augusta Rumble

At Taylor Maxwell, our people are passionate about driving positive change in the timber industry. In a recent Q&A, we spoke to our Certification & Compliance Coordinator, Augusta Rumble, who has spent more than a decade helping to shape our approach to responsible sourcing and timber.

Hi Augusta, thanks for speaking to us today! To begin, how long have you been in the timber industry?

I’ve worked in the timber industry for 14 years, all of which have been with Taylor Maxwell Timber.

Can you tell me a bit about your current role?

As Certification & Compliance Coordinator, my focus is managing our FSC® and PEFC certifications (FSC-C005705) and ensuring due diligence and risk assessments are carried out to confirm the legality of all imported timber.  I’m also responsible for maintaining our ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems, conducting supplier audits, and completing customer questionnaires.

Thanks for sharing Augusta, you’ve clearly developed a great career at Taylor Maxwell. Can you tell me what you were doing beforehand?

I graduated from Cardiff University in 2008 with a BA Hons in French. After a winter season working and skiing in the Alps, I moved to Bristol.  A good friend working at Southern Timber Co tipped me off about a vacancy at Taylor Maxwell, and I applied for a sales support role.

Was there anything in particular that made you want to join the Taylor Maxwell team?

First impressions really do count, our head office is a beautiful Grade II listed merchant house in Clifton Village. The friendly atmosphere of the sales team and the opportunity to use my French skills in purchasing made it an easy decision to accept the job offer. Since then, my role has naturally evolved to focus on certification and compliance, enabling us to prioritise our commitment to certification and responsible sourcing.

Looking back, is there anything that you’re especially proud of during your time here?

When I first started, there wasn’t any formal training in place for FSC® or PEFC processes. Over time, I’ve helped build a structured training plan that now gives staff regular opportunities to refresh their knowledge, ask questions, and stay confident in their understanding of certification and compliance. It’s something I’m genuinely proud of, seeing how it’s improved both internal awareness and customer confidence in what we do.

Finally, from your perspective, what developments in the timber industry are you most excited about right now?

As the business grows, certification and compliance are becoming increasingly central to our long-term success.  The ambitious EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) will require deeper supply chain engagement and along with the rising importance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) standards, there is real momentum to drive positive change. It’s motivating to be working towards a more transparent, ethical, and sustainable supply chain.

Thanks for chatting to us today Augusta. It’s clear that as regulations continue to evolve, your work is more vital than ever. We look forward to seeing how Taylor Maxwell continues to set a strong example for responsible sourcing and drive positive change in the timber industry.
