Timber Cladding

Though timber has long been used to construct the external walls of buildings, the use of timber as a non-load bearing cladding has traditionally been restricted to cladding rural buildings. However, due to an increasing demand to use natural and sustainable materials in construction, the desire for improved speed and predictability of build, and a preference to position insulation on the outside of the internal walls, the use of timber as an external ‘rainscreen’ cladding material on modern buildings provides not only an environmentally friendly solution but also one that is attractive, durable and ‘builder-friendly’.

At Taylor Maxwell, we recognise the need for the designer to select the appropriate species and finish of timber, combined with the necessary attention to detail, to ensure that the entire façade remains durable and weathers consistently throughout the lifetime of the building. Therefore, using our expertise in global timber sourcing, we have identified reliable and certified suppliers to ensure we can offer a range of softwood and hardwood species in sizes and profiles of the highest quality and finish.

As members of TRADA and accredited by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC), Taylor Maxwell will offer a unique mix of product awareness, an understanding of the detailing requirements for the use of timber as an external rainscreen and almost 50 years experience of distributing timber throughout the UK.
